T2 have played 7 games on the road so far this season, compared to only 4 home games (which is fine, because we get to end the season with far more home games). To finish off this most recent three game road swing, T2 will now play their 8th road game. Opponent: Brand new independent USL expansion side, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
Portland Timbers 2
T2 (4-5-2, 14 pts) did not do so well in their most recent outing. It is eerily familiar writing this. Prior to the first time they were supposed to face Colorado Springs, T2 had a bad collapse at home versus Orange County Blues FC. This time, they had a listless performance against Oklahoma City Energy FC.
There was something about the Great Plains last week as not only did Oklahoma City have significant technical problems with their stream, but when the Portland Thorns traveled to the Houston Dash, they too had problems that caused their stream to not work.
Problems out of their control aside, T2 need to gather themselves back up and climb up from the plains of Oklahoma to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado Springs. Going from approximately 1200 ft to over 6000 ft in elevation, T2 will get to experience playing over a mile high for the first time. And T2 will be without Matt Rose who received a straight red card for a challenge on Oklahoma City's Danni Konig.
Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC
CSSFC (5-5-0, 15 pts) got all 3 points in their last match on Saturday June 6th. Which is again, just like the last time when they had a win in Scottsdale right before they were going to face T2. This most recent match was a home game against the Vancouver Whitecaps 2 and it was a 3-0 home win.
The match was delayed due to lightning strikes in the 29th minute. After play restarted the home side went up 1-0 just before half time. And they put the result away when they netted the final two goals in the last 10 minutes of the match. And while originally Colorado had 2 key players serving suspensions on red cards when they were supposed to meet T2, this time around they have everyone available. And their 1-1-0 home record has improved to 3-1-0 since the original meeting was rescheduled.
So T2 will need to dust themselves off and not succumb to the altitude as they fight for a result (assuming no weather delays again).
