Toronto fans are upset with procedures for MLS Cup ticket sales

Toronto Fans Annoyed with Ticket Sales

I'm still trying to get to the bottom of this, and it's always going to be difficult when you have a special event like this that needs more tickets for neutrals and away fans, but do their fans have an argument?

I get that it stinks that you can't sit in your regular seats if you're a season ticket holder, but the top priority is getting season ticket holders access to buy tickets to the game (even if not in their regular, or desired location). After that (and away seats and seats the league needs for "dignitaries") there are always going to not be enough for the general public. It sounds like they sold out super fast, which definitely blows. But the most dedicated fans (at least in the only objective measure we can get: buying season tickets) got access to buy seats, and to me that's the important part. Also they kept the supporters section out of the equation, which makes a ton of sense, as you're not going to sell those seats to neutrals or away fans.

Now I think there is an argument to be had with selling any tickets directly to Stubhub, although it's very likely the league is contractually obligated to do this.

These are a lot of the same issues we all know happened last year, when many Timbers fans wanted to go to Columbus but didn't want to pay the huge markup on tickets. Unfortunately I don't really know that there is a better solution (other than not sell tickets directly to Stubhub, because it's virtually guaranteed that some will make it on there anyway).

Thoughts?
