Prediction Thread: RIVALRY ALERT

In their midweek matchup, returning home from a Sunday game on the other side of the country, the Timbers were stymied by Montreal and came away with a 1-1 draw. Jack Mac got the Timbers' first goal this year from a corner while Piatti got some lucky bounces after two good tackles by Borchers to get on the board. And yet that wasn't all the luck he had - Piatti avoided a red for a brutal tackle on Powell, only to face a retroactive suspension by the Disciplinary Committee. So two more points dropped because someone scored who shouldn't have been on the field. Pick of the week goes to two people this week: Deschutes got the score correct, plus Piatti's goal, and Withdrawn Striker got the Score and McInerney's goal. Shoutout to straight red who also called 1-1.

And the ways to earn points:

  • Correct score: 3 points
  • Correct result (draw/win/loss): 2 points
  • Each goal-scorer: 1 point
  • Each clean sheet: 1 point
  • Each assist: 1 point
  • Player with the first yellow card of the match: 1 point
  • Player with a red card: 1 point
Also, as last year, let's keep score predictions in the realm of possibility. I tend to say no more than eight goals between teams in one game, but since 5-4 is at least possible, and has happened, that eight goal cap is about as hard as MLS's salary cap is. But I don't want to see 7-5 scorelines just to rack up points on goal scorers.

This week, the Timbers have the first of three games against the Fish. That Seattle team is coming off a 5-0 midweek stomping of Dallas, but they'll be missing Dempsey and before that, they were winless in four. The Timbers, with their draw, extended their unbeaten run to 8 games. Can they build on that streak with a win at home?
