Could a DP be coming sooner rather than later?

According to a report on MLSSoccer.com this morning, the Timbers are actively in negotiations with a European central midfielder who would "be one of the best midfielders in the entire league." Now, say what you want about MLS's attacking and defending prospects, but it's hard to deny that our little league has acquired some very strong midfielders in the recent past including the likes of Rafa Marquez, Julian de Guzman, and David Beckham. To be "one of the best" amongst the crowd isn't going to be easy.

Still though, it's quite difficult to say just what is occurring behind the scenes at the Timbers FO. Spencer has acknowledged that trading Dax McCarty away as soon as he did was a calculated gamble based on who we are able to acquire on an international level. However, there's really no way of knowing who is planned to be heading over. I could easily list off a few personal guesses:

  • DaMarcus Beasley
  • Benny Feilhaber
  • Steven Gerrard (kidding!)

But all of these amount to nothing more than guesses, with the former two being listed due to their in-form shape and USMNT roles.

I guess we'll just have to wait until January to see what, if anything happens. Sure does make you think though...
