Big Week for the Timbers

The Timbers will unveil their kits this Thursday.
Next to the SuperDraft and the beginning of the 2011 season, this week promises to be the biggest of the off season. While it might not seem like much, allow me to walk you through the week's festivities:

First, on Wednesday, December 8th at 2:00PM the players are holding a special "Meet the Players" press event. I'm not sure if this is merely so the press and a few lucky individuals can meet the players acquired in the expansion draft/previous trades or if they're also planning on announcing a new player. Either way, it's going to be an important event.

Additionally, on the same day, the first stage of the Re-Entry draft is held. I'm still of the mind that the Timbers won't be selecting anybody from it, but who knows? Maybe we could end up with one or two veterans if it's in the FO's plan.

Second, on Thursday, December 9th at 2:00PM the Timbers will finally unveil their 2011 MLS kits to the world.  I don't know why they held off on it for so long, but I'd like to think it was because they worked damn hard to make sure it's a bang up kit. Hopefully the fact that Adidas has their HQ in our fine city is some indication that they're willing to put extra effort into our kit.

Finally, on Friday, December 10th the official downtown team store is opening off of SW 6th, between SW Alder and SW Washington. This is huge news as having a team store solidifies yourself as a brand amongst the city. Prior to this year the Timbers only had a team store within the stadium as expected by most sports teams.

So there you have it. While Monday and Tuesday are relatively barren of any news, the remainder  of the work week should hold you over until the holidays. I'll personally be attempting to cover each event as much as possible while they are going on.
