Well the first stage of the 2010 Re-Entry Draft was held approximately 15 minutes ago and lasted all over 4 minutes. It was a very quick and hasty draft that really didn't do much for either the players or the teams, particularly the Timbers who chose nobody.
Here were the picks:
Here were the picks:
- DC United - Joseph Ngwenya
- Columbus - Aaron Holhbein
Yup, that's it.
Honestly, I didn't expect the first stage of the Re-Entry Draft to be too exciting given that any player a team chose had to honor the MLS contract made prior and give the players a yearly raise. I believe stage 2 will be much more eventful as MLS clubs will be able to renegotiate contracts. Perhaps then the Timbers will choose a player, although I'm still a wee bit doubtful.
It will also be exciting to see where Juan Pablo Angel and Guillermo Barros Schelotto are headed, if anywhere. Both players were marquee international pickups over the last few seasons and have worked wonders for their respective teams in that time.
