Alright so I wouldn't go locking this into your calendar's or taking this as anything more than hearsay at the moment, but word from a Canadian soccer blog is that the Montreal Impact captain Nevio Pizzolitto told the guys who run the podcast Oranges at Halftime, that Montreal would be facing off against our own club as well as the LA Galaxy and Sporting KC in a pre-season tournament in Arizona.
I don't know whether Montreal's captain is correct, nor do I have any inside information at the Timbers FO to say that this is 100% true. What I can say is that Nevio certainly participated in the podcast and I certainly listened to him "confirming" it.
If true I can say I'm certainly excited at the thought of playing against the Galaxy in a pre-season friendly. While they may have lost their star striker Edson Buddle today to Bundesliga 2 side Ingolstadt, they're certainly a force to be reckoned with and one that certainly doesn't mind splashing some cash on high profile players from around the world.
I suppose the "humdrum" part of the tourney will be playing against the Montreal Impact who we've played countless times already. Still, it's exciting to see who we may be facing in the coming months as we lead into our inaugural MLS season. This will be a huge test for our youthful side.
