SuperDraft Coming January 12, 2012; Only Two Rounds

MLS has just officially announced details for the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. Those of you who were with us prior to this season's beginnings will remember that that's where the Timbers acquired Darlington Nagbe.

This year's event will kick off on January 12th, 2012 and will be hosted by Kansas City.

There are some notable changes between this year's SuperDraft and last year's. This time around there are only two SuperDraft rounds with 38 overall selections compared to three. In 2010 and prior there were actually four rounds/ This is probably a decent measure with which we can use to see the relevancy of college players as compared to homegrown academy players. As home grown players become more valuable, college players' stock will continue to decrease.

Shortly after the SuperDraft occurs a four round Supplemental Draft will take place on January 17th, 2012.

The 2012 Adidas MLS combine will take place in Fort Lauderdale.

Given that the Timbers came very close to the play-offs we'll likely be in the 8th-9th spot in the SuperDraft selection pool with the Montreal Impact getting first selection.
