Timbers Name Adam Smith as Academy and Youth Goalkeeping Director

So here's some news for you guys! And I apologize that it's coming just a bit later than my usual punctual self. Today has been quite hectic for some of my other writing duties... and we'll just leave it at that.

In any case, Adam Smith the 2010-2011 season goalkeeping coach has gotten a bit of a promotion after being moved over to a Director position with the Timbers Academy. Here's what General Manager Gavin Wilkinson and Adam Smith had to say:

"Adam is a knowledgeable coach and has extensive experience in working with youth," said Wilkinson. "He has excelled and found success with other youth programs around the country, and he will be a positive mentor and coach for the Timbers Academy. This is a new position, and Adam will work with Mike in getting the Timbers Academy up and running and striving for success."

And

"I am very much looking forward to helping spearhead the Timbers Academy program," said Adam Smith. "A well run academy is pivotal to the future success of the Timbers organization. I see this new opportunity as a forward step and one that opens the door to a much greater role for me with the Timbers and Major League Soccer."

In other news, this now means that the Timbers have an open position for the current goal keeping coach position, something the Timbers FO aren't quite ready to divulge, but stay tuned because via the official Timbers Twitter they said to expect an announcement soon.
