Our newly acquired veteran midfielder from Sporting Kansas City has been named our very own captain for the upcoming 2011 season. For those of you who have been following SB Nation for a while now, you'll remember back in our mock Expansion Draft late last year I picked Jack Jewsbury for this very position. While the method we acquired him was different, I'm quite pleased that my prediction was correct.
"Jack is a good leader and an experienced professional with nine years in MLS," said Spencer. "It was not an easy decision, as we have a lot of good candidates on the team, but Jack stood out and came to the top of the list."
Jewsbury, 29, has played for Sporting Kansas City (previously the Kansas City Wizards) for the past eight years, appearing in 195 matches, scoring 15 goals and acquiring 21 assists. In 2008 he was named Sporting KC's Defensive Player of the Year.
On a personal note, looking at our current line up I'd say we have chosen a solid, defensively minded captain. One who has the leadership capabilities to lead us through our first MLS season. I'm excited about this.
