Portland Timbers to Host Club America for Second Friendly

Some of you who partook in my recent poll concerning the remaining two friendlies had expressed hope in a Mexican league team coming to Portland for one of the two remaining friendlies. Well, wish granted. Clausera division leading team, Club America, is set to take on the Portland Timbers on July 7th at 7:30 PM.

For those unfamiliar with Club America here's a snippet of info concerning the Mexican champions:

Based in Mexico City, Club América is one of the most successful clubs in Mexican soccer, having won 33 total championships since its founding in 1916. The club boasts 14 league championships, including five Primera División titles during the 1980s, winning their most recent during the 2005 Clausura season. Club América is a five-time winner of the CONCACAF Champions League and competed in the 2006 FIFA Club World Cup.

So that marks our second of three friendlies scheduled for the summer, the first being against Eredivisie side Ajax. Our third and final summer friendly will be announced at a later date.

Details regarding ticket availability (for those without season tickets) and pricing for the Club America match were not immediately available.
