his has been heavily rumored for the last couple of days, but as of this morning the Portland Timbers have made it official: English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion will play an international friendly against the Timbers at Jeld-Wen Field on July 20th. This marks our third and final exhibition game for the 2011 season.
For those of you who don't know much about the EPL or West Bromwich Albion, here's a snippet of information regarding the club:
West Bromwich Albion is one of the more historic clubs in English soccer. Founded in 1878, the club was one of the original members of the Football League and has spent most of its existence competing in England’s top flight. West Bromwich Albion has competed in the Premier League in five of the last nine seasons, making its league debut in 2002.
Known as "The Baggies," West Bromwich Albion is a five-time winner of the prestigious FA Cup and has several other championships to its credit, including a top-league title in 1919-20, the Football League Cup in 1965-66 and, most recently, won the 2007-08 Football League Championship title. West Bromwich Albion is also a five-time FA Cup runner-up.
Remember, the Portland Timbers will also host Dutch Eredivisie side Ajax on May 25th and then Mexican league side Club America on July 7th.
