Portland Timbers 2012 Player Rankings #35: Chris Taylor

Left back Chris Taylor has never made it out of the reserve squad and into games with the first team.

The Timbers picked up Chris Taylor in the second round of the 2011 Superdraft. The defender out of the University of Tulsa was the number 22 overall pick. Since then, Taylor has made regular appearances with the Timbers reserves, leading the reserve team in minutes played in 2011. He also appeared in friendlies against Ajax Amsterdam, Club America, and West Bromich Albion, but Taylor has never played in a league game. In fact, if memory serves me correctly, he has never made the game day 18.

In July of 2012, even Taylor's time with the reserve team was derailed when had to undergo hip surgery, which kept him out for the rest of the season. In August, he was moved to the injury reserve list to make room for Andrew Jean-Baptiste's return from his loan spell with the L.A. Blues.

Should He Be Kept On For 2013?

No. If Chris Taylor hasn't even cracked the game day roster in two years with the Timbers, it just does not seem like it's going to happen. It's time to let Taylor go and free up his roster spot.
