Some big news for returning US international youths today as Gale Agbossoumonde has decided to sign with MLS after having a lackluster European career which saw him play in Portugal, Sweden and Germany before landing at the Carolina Railhawks. At 21 years of age he's also seen as a potential for the U-23 USMNT team in the future and perhaps a more stable backline position with the USMNT in the future.
Unfortunately for the Portland Timbers, they are ineligible to win him in today's lottery as they just won Mobi Fehr a few days ago. Whether that turns out to be a good or bad thing is anybody's guess. However, it should at least make you think about the "what ifs" of the situation. Had Portland decided to skip on Fehr -- not saying they should have -- they would have a fair chance at landing Agbossoumonde.
Agbossoumonde will be dealt via lottery later today to either the LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders, FC Dallas or Toronto FC, and two other teams according to Soccer by Ives. Toronto, for their part, has the greatest chance of winning him and would have had a better chance than Portland had they been able to participate.
What do you think about Agbossoumonde signing with MLS? Wish the Timbers could take part or are you happy with Mobi Fehr?
