The Portland Timbers reported today that central defender Futty Danso has suffered a fractured fifth metatarsal in his left foot. He is expected to be out four to six weeks.
The injury appears to have resulted from an incident in training yesterday. Timbers Insider writer Kelly McLain gave this report at the time:
Futty Danso played just a few minutes of keepaway before taking a knock that forced him to the sideline to ice his left foot for the remainder of training. "We have a running joke here," Spencer explained. "It always seems to be a problem that when Bright Dike gets near people, people get injured. So Futty got ‘Dike’d’ on the ankle."
With Futty out of commission, the starting lineup on March 12 has become that much more clear -- Eric Brunner and Hanyer Mosquera will almost certainly be starting next Monday's match against Philadelphia Union. If one of them needs to be replaced before Futty or David Horst are match fit again, either Andrew Jean-Baptiste or Steve Purdy would most likely be next in line.
And of course it goes without saying that our best wishes and hopes for a speedy recovery go out to Futty.
