With just about two weeks to go until our next MLS regular season game, we're getting a little light on stuff to write about here on Stumptown Footy. I mean, practices are interesting and all, but without some sort of action, game, transfer etc. to back it up with they can get a little dull. As such, we'll be incorporating a bit more off topics discussions and in depth analysis over the next couple weeks starting today!
As we all know the Euro 2012 competition is kicking off this weekend. Next to the World Cup, it's probably the most globalized international soccer event in the world and, while we're all huge U.S. Men's National Team fans, the truth is that Euro 2012 provides a good sampling of action that the Gold Cup unfortunately does not. Hopefully the Pan America Cup will alleviate that some in 2016, but that's for another topic entirely!
So, with that out of the way, I thought it might be fun to spark up a little conversation on Euro 2012 and get an idea of who we're all rooting for.
Personally, I'm pulling for Germany. I'll be the first one to tell you that I'm not hugely into European soccer, but something about the German national team just makes them hugely fun to watch. During the last World Cup they were incredible, especially when they completely trounced Argentina. So much fun! In particular I'm curious to see how Thomas Mueller (my keyboard can't do umlauts) and Lukas Podolski work out up top.
Of course, if you're not currently rooting for anybody you can always just pick a team and follow them through. I typically do that for each World Cup outside of the USMNT. It can be fun just to follow them through the tournament.
So, with that said... the poll! And if you want give us a reason in the comments for your particular selection.
