[Update: MLSSoccer.com is saying that Boyd will be out 4-6 weeks.]
GCA's scoop here claims that we may have seen the last of Boyd for the year with his groin injury sustained in Wednesday's game against league-leading San Jose. Boyd looked to be in some mild discomfort and tried to walk it off, but had to be subbed off for Dike. At the time it seemed more precautionary, but it appears that pulled groin will end Boyd's first season with the Timbers on an injured note.
It's hard not to wonder whether or not, with that injury, we have seen the last of Boyd in a Timbers uniform. While bringing flashes of brilliance and a serious attitude to the first half of the season, Boyd dazzled in his first competitive games. I remember when he scored minutes into his debut against AIK, and then again against Philadelphia, and he kept it up, scoring both of his first Cascadia matches. However, after Spencer's dismissal, it never seemed like he recovered his scoring touch. He looked lively on Wednesday with his renewed chance, but it looks like we won't get another glimpse this season of whether or not he'd fit into our new-found 4-3-3 with the attacking verve.
Thoughts? Personally I think it's awfully sad more than anything. I still think he could have brought quite a bit of intensity to these last few matches, which we could use for these upcoming road matches for the Cascadia Cup. Do you think we've seen the end of Boyd with the Timbers, or do you think he'll get the call next year with Porter at the helm?
