Portland Thorns FC Player Profile: Tobin Heath

Added to the Thorns roster through the allocation process Tobin Heath will add creativity to the midfield

Russ Isabella-US PRESSWIRE

The good news it that the Thorns added a great creative midfielder but the bad news is she will not be joining the club until after her 6 month loan contract is at Paris Saint-Germain is over. Getting allocated Tobin Heath was probably one of the bigger surprised of the allocation process and should be a great addition to the Thorns Roster.

Brief History

Tobin grew up in New Jersey where she collected many honors as one of the top recruited high school players in 2006. In the end Tobin decided to attend the University of North Carolina and play for a national powerhouse program. While at North Carolina she was coached by Cindy Parlow Cone, the Thorns headcoach, and was a member of 3 national title teams.

After graduating from college Tobin was the first pick in the 2010 WPS College Draft and played for the expansion side Atlanta Beat. She was then traded to Sky Blue FC and played there until WPS folded.

Accolades

  • 2005 Parade Team All-American in HS
  • Gatorade New Jersey 2005 Player of the year
  • Herman Mac Trophy Semi-Finalist
  • 2008 and 2012 Gold Medalist
  • 2011 World Cup Silver Medalist

Thoughts

Tobin will not be available to suit up for the Thorns until PSG's season ends on May 23rd but that shouldn't stop Portland fans from being excited. Her ability to set up other players and control the ball in the midfield will allow Alex Morgan and Christine Sinclair to run rampant on opposing defenses. When she arrives it will be a great day for Portland Thorns as she is one of the more technically gifted National Team Players.
