Klinsmann Calls up 25 Players for January Training Camp; MLS Players Heavily Featured

With the first hexagonal game not too far off at this point, Jurgen Klinsmann has gone ahead and called in 25 players for the January training camp, most likely to see if said players would be fit enough to play during the February 6th game against Honduras, though the final squad will undoubtedly also include a few notable players not included in this call up.

Here are the players called up:

As you can see, MLS players are heavily featured. It shouldn't come as a surprise that players like Bill Hamid, Omar Gonzales, Graham Zusi and Chris Wondolowski are included, but there are other names not often affiliated with the USMNT on a regular basis.

In addition to MLS players, Mix Diskerud is also going to be joining the camp. While rumors of his transfer to Portland have since gone quiet (especially with Diego Valeri in the mix now), he remains a popular USMNT figure for the future.

Here's what Klinsmann had to say about the players joining up:

"There is a tremendous amount of talent in the player pool. We follow these players very carefully, and the group coming in is the next line to challenge the players ahead of them in the National Team. This is absolutely a huge opportunity, and we’re looking forward to working with them. We are getting ready for the friendly against Canada, and also the big World Cup qualifier in Honduras, so these are going to be an important few weeks of preparation."

Still disappointed that no Timbers player has ever been called up to don the red, white and blue, but some day... Some day.
