The Portland Timbers' 5-0 win over Chivas USA was the team's largest margin of victory since joining MLS in 2011. It was a purposeful match played against an opponent with broken spirits and the Timbers ran roughshod over Chivas.
Picking a Man of the Match after a performance like that was thankfully easy. You can find our picks below and share yours in the poll and comments at the bottom of the page.
Will - Diego Valeri
The game was over after 45 minutes, so the fact that Valeri only played the first half does not really effect my pick here. Valeri just dominated the match from start to finish (such as it was). Beyond his goals and his assist, Valeri also found his teammates time and again, creating chances even beyond the three that the Timbers converted in the second half.
Michael - Diego Valeri
Not expecting a lot of differentiation on this one. Controlled tempo, scored goals, assisted on another and was the best player on the field for his 45 minutes. Among his best performances of the season.
Stacey - Diego Valeri
Is an explanation really required? He is, as Caleb Porter said many months ago after the home opener, truly worth every penny, and after a match like last night, I just can't wait to see what he's going to do next.
Ryan - Diego Valeri
He was involved in 60% of the goals scored and only played 45 minutes. If he is not given at least one MLS award (newcomer of the year) it will be a huge surprise.
There are our picks, but what are yours? Vote in the poll below and let us know why in the comments.
