Portland Timbers Training Quotes and Notes: Be Clinical

With one week down and another to go before the final match before the MLS Cup, the Timbers got back to practice today after having the weekend off.

The Portland Timbers started their second week of training between their Western Conference Final matches against Real Salt Lake. Without the need for a regeneration day to kick off the week the Timbers looked like they could get right into it at practice today, going through the team warm-up with a circuit training course set up on the field before closing practice.

The training session wrapped up early today with the team only going for 45' before heading indoors. Afterward, Michael Harrington talked to the press about having the weekend off so late in the year.

It's just good to get a couple days of rest and get away from it a little bit, then to be able to come back today and get back to work and get ready for the weekend.

With one week left to go before the Timbers take on RSL in the second leg of the Conference Finals, Harrington said that the team is looking at themselves in their preparations, rather than at their opponents.

This week is really about us. We know Salt Lake. We've played them quite a few times this year. We know what they bring, but we want to make sure to focus on the things that we do well. We need to attack, we need to score goals. We know that, so we need to get around goal in training this week and be clinical and get our finishing sharp and just play our game like we played all year at home.

Injuries and Absences

Diego Valeri was once again not at practice today. Valeri was only spotted making brief appearances on the sidelines of practice that week, not working out with the team. Minutes for the Timbers' playmaker have been at a premium in the playoffs thanks to his ongoing struggles with an adductor strain which limited him to 53' in the first leg at RSL.

Pa Modou Kah, who spent all of last week's practices riding an exercise bike on the sidelines and working out with John Cone, was back in the mix today, warming up with the team before practice closed. Caleb Porter confirmed after practice that Kah has been dealing with a rib injury and that the team has kept him "in neutral" ahead of this weekend's game.

Sebastian Rincon was back with the team today after wrapping up his training stint in Argentina. Rincon hinted on twitter that the stint was with Club Athletico Tigre. It was his second such stint in Argentina this year after he spent some time there back in July. At the time the Timbers were looking to send Rincon out on loan, which did not materialize thanks to some paperwork issues.

Michael Nanchoff was not at practice today. Nanchoff has been back in Portland for two weeks now, but has been dealing with an ankle knock that he suffered while on loan in Sweden. According to Porter's comments after practice today, Nanchoff could still be out for several more weeks as he recovers.

Mikael Silvestre was also not at practice today. Silvestre, who was on the verge of returning from his May knee surgery, has not been spotted at practice for the last week.
