Ben Zemanski was brought to this team because he could fill multiple roles in the midfield and he knew the system Porter was going try and implement. Most of his 25 appearances came as a substitute with only 9 starts, which came courtesy of injuries or Gold Cup call-ups. While his stats do not appear to be showy he was a serviceable back-up and provided effort off the bench whenever he was called upon as a sub. While he was associated with the stigma that whenever he came on the Timbers would bunker this is an unfair characterization because he mostly subbed on for Valeri, who was Portland's offense for a lot of the year.
What you see is what you get with Zemanski. He will always bring effort and stamina to the game and provide spot starts for the two players in the double pivot and this will probably not change in the next season. Expect a similar season next year with a lot of appearances as a sub and some spot starts.
