We may not have anyone down there, but we were able to get a few brief updates on the team ahead of today's preseason game against Sporting Kansas City.
Brent Richards, who went down with an injury in practice last Saturday, did not travel with the team to Tuscon. The team did confirm that it was a left knee injury, but did not share the specifics of the injury or give an estimate as to how long Richards will be out of practice. Richards did walk off the field under his own power after sustaining the injury on Saturday.
Rodney Wallace will not join the Timbers in Arizona. Instead he will stay on with the Costa Rican national team through their World Cup qualifier on the 6th and will start practicing with the Timbers when they return to Portland on the week of the 10th. In his time with the Costa Rican national team this January, Wallace played all five of the team's games in the Copa Centroamericana. Wallace scored the game-winning goal in the tournament's semi-final game against El Salvador as Costa Rica went on to win the competition.
Supplemental draft pick Chris Hegngi will also be joining the team in Portland. Hegngi played primarily at forward during his college career with Ohio State, but could project as a defensive midfielder for the Timbers. Check out some highlights of his here.
Finally, the team confirmed that they have not added any new trialists while in Tuscon.
