Kris Boyd Appreciation Thread

Kris Boyd played only one season for the Portland Timbers and during that season he was the leading scorer.

Steve Dykes

About this time last year there was a lot of optimism about the Portland Timbers and a lot of that had to do with the signing of Kris Boyd. Kris came to the Timbers after a rough time in Turkey where he was never paid and had to go to a tribunal to recoup his lost wages. Once he arrived in Portland he seemed ready to play and to work hard.

Signing Kris paid immediate dividends as he scored his first goal in the opening game of the 2012 season. Over the course of the next 5 games he would add 2 more for 3 goals in his first 6 games of the season. Over the rest of the year Kris would score 4 more goals including one against the Seattle Sounders.

His reaction to the goal against the Sounders showed he really understood rivalries and then later his reaction to Fredy Montero's action helped show how much of a fiery personality he had. In the end his stay did not last long but he left some some enduring memories of his short stay. He may not have been the answer we were looking for at forward but at least he was our leading scorer.

When Caleb Porter was hired as the head coach for the upcoming season it signaled the possible end of Kris's time in Portland. Kris' talents and skillset did not match with what Caleb wanted to do with this team. With that in mind Kris' contract was bought out in January and is currently a free agent.

Good Luck Kris and thank you for your goal against the Sounders to help us win the Cascadia Cup.
