Yesterday marked the first ever NWSL Supplemental Draft, the final method by which NWSL teams could acquire players for their upcoming 2013 NWSL season. From here on out, as far as I know, the rosters are pretty much locked. Which actually brings up an odd issue of player transfers between NWSL club. Really not sure how that will work out in this league... among many, many other things. I feel like they should sponsor a workshop or something.

Anyway, the Portland Thorns FC added five players to their squad from the draft bringing the total roster size to 20, the maximum allowed by the NWSL this season. The players are:

Marian Dalmy

It's worth highlighting the fact that Tina Ellertson is a local, having been born in Vancouver, WA. She has also recieved over 30 call ups for the USWNT. Between her and Rachel Buehler, we could be looking at a potent defensive combination.

Scracth that. According to Ellertson's Twitter feed, she will not be playing soccer this year. Hmmm...

Additionally, Angie Kerr is also a local, of sorts, having played her collegiate game at none other than the University of Portland. Angie has also made 10 appearances for the USWNT.

While the official roster is sitting at 20 players, now is probably a good time to remind everybody that both Amber Brooks and Tobin Heath will not be joining the Portland Thorns FC for the forseeable future as they're playing over in Europe for Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germaine respectively. Presumably they would join the team in the summer, though I can['t confirm that.

With the roster solidified for the Thorns, how are you feeling about the upcoming season?
