Thorns FC's Rachel Buehler had quite the match against Iceland in the USWNT's Algarve Cup showing this morning.
The defender wore the captain's armband in honor of her 100th cap. She also netted a goal, the team's first of the tournament, exactly two minutes into the second half.
The goal came when Buehler made a hard run in on a corner kick cross from Lauren Cheney, which Buehler headed into the left corner of the net. It was Buehler's fourth goal in international play.
Also notable: The team's third goal came from Western New York Flash's Abby Wambach, who now only needs four goals to tie Mia Hamm's record of 158. Wambach's goal, which came in the 74th minute, came off some hard work from Thorns FC forward Alex Morgan, who stole a weak back pass from Iceland's defenders to set up the play. Morgan also had several good scoring chances that didn't quite find home.
Shannon Boxx, who plays for the Chicago Red Stars, scored at the 62' mark. It was her 27th career goal.
The U.S. plays next on March 8 against China.
