Portland Timbers vs. Montreal Impact Match Thread [7:30 pm]

The Portland Timbers look to take on the Montreal Impact, but will they be able to earn their first 3 points of the season tonight? Join us here and find out!

Richard Wolowicz

Last week we saw the Timbers take on the New York Red Bulls and come away with only a single point to their name. It was enough to put them over some key teams such as the Seattle Sounders, but it fell far below of the expectations the Timbers fans have for their home openers.

Today, the Timbers will take on another Eastern Conference rival in a must-win game. Games against Eastern Conference teams are very important because the Timbers get just a single shot at earning the full amount of points and with one home game already down, there are few left to go.

Here's the information needed for tonight's game:

Final Thoughts

The Montreal Impact came out to the Pacific Northwest last week and took home three points from Seattle. That's an impressive win and it did the Timbers a favor in allowing us to get the upper hand on our Cascadian rival. Still, it's imperative that three points are earned tonight. To secure those points we will need to rely on Mikael Silvestre and Andrew Jean-Baptiste to be far more vigilant than they were against New York, and for Diego Valeri and Darlington Nagbe to continue their great partnership. Anything else and tonight's match will be a struggle.
