The Portland Thorns FC issued a press release a couple days ago (apologies for the delay!) stating that single game tickets for matches are now available to the general public. Tickets start at just $12 so, for the price of seeing a movie, you can now take your family to a professional sporting event. Not bad!
The real news here, however, is that the Thorns have sold nearly 7,000 season tickets to fans. Those are great numbers for a women's team in a brand new league and just goes to show how in love this city is with the sport. I don't have numbers for every MLS team, but I would honestly be surprised if there weren't at least a few teams with fewer season ticket holders than the Thorns.
We're still not sure just how big the Thorns stadium alignment will be. We know that it's significantly smaller than the maximum Timbers seating at just over 20,000. My guess is that it's somewhere between 10,000-12,000 which should make for a less crowded, more intimate soccer experience if you prefer that sort of thing.
The Thorns kick off their first match April 13th with an away game against FC Kansas City. Their first home opener is April 21st against the Seattle Reign. Expect it to be sold out so get your tickets soon.
