The Portland Thorns attempt to bounce back from their first ever defeat in NWSL history with a home game against the Washington Spirit.

The Portland Thorns did not have a great game last Thursday. Their passing was sloppy. They looked disconnected all night. Overwhelmingly they just didn't look like their usual selves. Today they have the opportunity to right the ship wherever it went wrong against Sky Blue FC. For starters they can probably slot Danielle Foxhoven into the starting XI. Her knack for creating opportunities will definitely be needed today.

Here are the details for the game:

Final Thoughts

The Thorns are still technically in first place, with the "Goals For" and "Goal Differential" stats in their favor, but they're level with Sky Blue FC in points. That means that the Thorns will need all three points to hopefully distance themselves from the competition but with Sky Blue playing the Seattle Reign today, I wouldn't get my hopes up that they're going to lose. As such they'll probably need all three points today just to keep up.

As an aside: with how SBFC played against the Thorns, I can easily see this season becoming a two-horse race between the two sides. Should be interesting!
