Tonight the Portland TImbers U-23's take on the Charleston Battery in the second round of the US Open Cup. The U-23s advanced to the second round after last Tuesday's season opening win against the Sacramento Gold. Since then the U-23s have posted two wins in their first two league games. The Battery have not been resting on their laurels this year either. The visiting side have posted six wins at the USL Pro level, good enough for second place.

Final Thoughts

The Timbers U-23s have every chance of advancing past the Battery, but it will be a stiff test. Although the team has come together remarkably quickly, their cohesion, and the extent to which these young players have bought into the style of football embraced by the Timbers from the top down, will need to be top notch to stay in the cup.
