The Portland Timbers have never really been a strong MLS team. As such, in recent years, the MLS All Star game was something of a non-event to most Timbers fans. To some extent it probably still is as it's a fairly meaningless competition designed to just make money. However, this year the Timbers are a much stronger team and, as such, the possibility of the All Star team featuring some of our Portland boys is high.
One way in which you can personally help to push forward the Timbers players is by voting on them. Earlier today, MLS announced that the voting portion of the MLS All Star roster selection process was open. Out of 115 players, six are from the Timbers. They are:
- Donovan Ricketts
- Michael Harrington
- Will Johnson
- Diego Valeri
- Diego Chara
- Darlington Nagbe
Each player has had a solid season in 2013, though I would hazard that the absence of Rodney Wallace is a very confusing given his performance as a left winger.
You can check out the full list of MLS players right now and vote for the ones you'd like to see take the field against AS Roma right now.
What do you think about the Timbers players represented in the voting portion?
