Christine Sinclair, Alex Morgan, and Rachel Buehler were all missing from today's game. While that would ordinarily be an ill omen heading into an important regular season game, today the Thorns proved that they could stand without their champions. While it certainly wasn't a perfect game, the solid 2-nil win should supply plenty of assurances for future games when the national teamers are taken away.
Both of the Thorns' goals came in the second half. The first by fox in the box Danielle Foxhoven and the second by Meleana Shim. Shim also got the assist on Foxhoven's goal. Angie Kerr got the assist on Shim's. The game was very much a back and forth affair, though Seattle had a rough time finding the back of the net. Karina LeBlanc, for her part, came up really big in the 84th minute when she saved a penalty kick.
The Thorns' win today brings them up to 25 points (Seattle remains with just a single point). However, with Sky Blue FC also winning their game 3-2 over the Boston Breakers the top spot remains leveled.
13,802 fans attended today's game.
