Thorns FC Waive Defender Jazmyne Avant

North Texas native was signed as a Discovery Player in February

The roster juggling continues for Thorns FC, as today the club announced they have waived defender Jazmyne Avant. Avant's playing time consistently decreased during her time here-she may best be remembered for her rendition of the "Star-Spangled Banner" before Portland's first ever home match-although she did play well in last Sunday's 2-0 win over the Seattle Reign.

THORNS FC WAIVE DEFENDER JAZMYNE AVANT

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Thorns FC announced today that the club has waived defender Jazmyne Avant.

"Jazmyne worked hard during her time with the Thorns. We would like to thank her for her contributions to the club and we wish her the best in her future endeavors," said head coach Cindy Parlow Cone.

Avant, 23, was signed by the club as a Discovery Player on Feb. 20, 2013. The Texas native appeared in four games (2 starts) for Thorns FC during the inaugural National Women's Soccer League season. A former defender at the University of Florida, Avant logged 212 minutes of action playing primarily as a left back for Portland.
