After three weeks and six league or US Open Cup games, the Timbers finally had a chance to breath over the weekend. Today, however, they were right back at it with an early starting practice at the team's Beaverton training facility.

Although he denied that he took the weekend off, saying just that it was a "weekend without a game", Caleb Porter was mindful of his players' need to get away from the game.

"It's important that you do take the time, with this long season, to recharge the batteries mentally and physically," Porter said, talking about his team's first weekend off since the start of June. "We gave the guys Saturday and Sunday off, so hopefully they got away from the game and escaped, spent some time with the family, and lived a normal life for two days."

Injuries and Absences

The Timbers Gold Cup call-ups, Will Johnson, Frederic Piquionne, and Rodeny Wallace, were not with the team today, having departed for their assorted national teams.

Dylan Tucker-Gangnes and Jake Gleeson both continued their absences due to concussions sustained in practice. DTG has now been out of practice for three weeks, while Gleeson has been out for two.

Michael Harrington, who suffered a sprained ankle against the LA Galaxy, did some passing in today's training session, according to Caleb Porter. Porter also said the Harrington would be brought along gradually and was still questionable for Sunday's match in Columbus.

Jose Adolfo Valencia continued his absence from practice today. Trencito has been in Bogota spending time with his mother, who recently underwent surgery, since before the Dallas game. According to Caleb Porter, he is expected back tomorrow and will play against Monarcas Morelia on Wednesday.

Trialists and Guest Players

David Meves was back training with the Timbers today after a rough weekend with the Timbers U-23s. Meves played
in two of the U-23s three games, a 3-2 loss to the Washington Crossfire on Friday and a 2-0 loss to the Victoria Highlanders on Sunday.

A group of Timbers Academy kids were also at practice today, working out under the direction of Cameron Knowles. The Academy players are working with the first team coaching staff during their offseason and summer break. The Academy season starts up again in September.

Practice Notes

Pa Modou Kah was wearing pants and a long sleeve shirt today.

Michael Nanchoff has a smart new haircut. You will probably get a good look at it during Wednesday's friendly against Morelia.
