Thorns Waive Shufelt

The fifth-round draft pick saw limited action in Portland

In a move that many thought was inevitable after the acquisition of Tiffany Weimer and arrival of Tobin Heath (but is still a bummer), Portland Thorns FC waived forward Jessica Shufelt today. The 5' 7" forward --who was Portland's fifth-round pick in the Supplemental Draft, only played 31 minutes in four games this season. Full statement from the FO:

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Thorns FC announced today that the club has waived forward Jessica Shufelt.

"Jessica put in a lot of hard work and effort for the Thorns this season. We would like to sincerely thank her for her contributions to the team and hope for the best in her future endeavors," said head coach Cindy Parlow Cone.

Shufelt, 23, was the club's fifth-round pick (40th overall) in the inaugural NWSL Supplemental Draft on Feb. 7, 2013. The Rochester, N.Y., native appeared in four matches for Thorns FC this season, logging 31 minutes played.
