Portland Timbers Transfer Rumor: Andre Gray to the Portland Timbers

Silly season is upon us and Social Media is fanning the flames with one tweet in particular setting the Portland faithful atwitter.

Ben Hoskins

One tweet, with no other confirmed sources, from a fan of the Portland Timbers based in Australia broke the news that Andre Gray, who is currently plying his trade in the Skrill Premier League in England at Luton Town FC, is set to have a medical with the Portland Timbers. Gray is a striker who has scored 14 goals in 25 appearances in league play this year and during his time at Luton has scored 36 goals in 78 appearances.

As with any transfer rumor this one needs to be taken with a large grain of salt. For those interested here is the tweet in question:

While this tweet is indeed intriguing the fact that no other source was available to confirm the tweet from @liamliam02 puts this squarely in the rumor category. After some quick internet searches it would appear this transfer would cost the Timbers some money. Gray's current market value according to the website transfermrkt.com is 25,000 Euros and that he was recently acquired by Luton in the January of 2013. There was speculation he might transfer in the summer transfer window to a higher league within the English system but that did not occur.

For those not familiar with the English Soccer league system the Skrill Premier League is the 5th level of the system. (Premier League, League Championship, League One, League Two and then Conference Premier)
