Tonight, at Pure Space in the Pearl District, the Timbers held a fashion show and officially unveiled the new Rose City Red secondary and Timbers Retro third kits.
The Timbers went all out and put on a fun little fashion show event. The evening began with a runway introduction of the entire 2014 Timbers player roster and coaching staff. Of all the players Gaston Fernandez looked like he was born for the runway. Training GK Justin Luthy was also introduced during the player runway procession. And Fred Piquionne really got into it and had fun strutting his stuff on the runway.
After the players and coaching staff did their walk, it ended with Caleb Porter coming out and providing the crowd with a few words. Lots of confidence for success this season and a promise that we will always fight for the full 90 each and every game.
Schillo Tshuma, Taylor Peay, and Michael Harrington along with a few season ticket holders strutted their stuff on the runway showing off some of the new merchandise that will be available this season. There were a few new hats, t-shirts, jackets, and scarves modeled.
Once the new merchandise was modeled the main event that everyone was waiting for finally happened. Darlington Nagbe came out first modeling the new Rose City Red secondary kit with red shorts and red socks. There shouldn't be any more on-the-field confusion with these new jerseys. Up close the gradient transition from black at the top to red at the bottom on the chest and back is pretty sweet. In leaked photos I thought the gradient design was set in a hexagonal pattern, but it is actually lines of thorns and looks really good. The Rose City badge is used for the jocktag. A lot of the jersey is metallic and shiny. The adidas stripes on the shoulder, the Alaska Airlines logo (which is Silver with red shadowing), and the Adidas and Red Timbers logos on the chest. It is a very shiny jersey and screams red far more than the previous two secondary kits. There is no white on this kit. It is all red with some black stripes on the sleeves and that is about it.
Diego Valeri came out with the new Retro third kit. And I must say it is my new favorite jersey. Along with the shorts, it is primarily a deep forest green with gold stripes and a gold collar. Just as leaked. There is RCTID printed for the jocktag, The socks were also green with gold horizontal stripes. I'm not a fan of the block lettering for Alaska Airlines, but overall it is essentially the previous retro third kit in a deep green and gold instead of white and green. And the old school Timbers logo on the chest is a nice touch.
I'm definitely getting a new jersey this season (possibly both if I can't help myself!). Will you? Tell us in the comments if you were there and let us know what you think of the Timbers new kits.
