Portland Timbers vs. Chivas USA Match Thread [7:30]

The Timbers are still in search of their first win and with Chivas in town today is as good as any to get it.

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers are on three points from five games so far in 2014, a stretch worse than any they had last season. Today they take on Chivas USA, a team that they tied once and beat twice in 2013, and anything less than three points will be a real disappointment.

Thankfully the offense has finally started to click for the Timbers and their confidence in the attack will have been buoyed by their four goal haul against the Seattle Sounders last week. On the defensive side of things the Timbers certainly need work, but with changes likely on the back line, Timbers fans have reason to be optimistic.

Here is all the information that you need for today's match:

Previews

Match Preview: "Erick "Cubo" Torres remains Chivas' great scoring hope. Torres, on loan from Chivas de Guadalajara for at least half of the season, has started out 2014 on fire. After scoring in the first four games of the season, Torres finally drew a blank last weekend Chivas's 3-0 loss to the LA Galaxy."

Preview Interview: "I am really concerned about this game, as I've alluded to in previous questions. Last season, Chivas' season fell apart when they got blown away by Sporting Kansas City. The following week, they played Portland, and got crushed, and that was it for the season, despite it only being May. Could the tumble happen even faster this year?"
