Portland Timbers Man of the Match: Unanimous

Who was the Timbers Man of the Match? Is there really any question?

Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers pulled out their first road win of the season yesterday with a surprising 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls. The pick for the Timbers' top performer was pretty straightforward for us here at Stumptown Footy, but was there someone other than the night's goalscorer Maximiliano Urruti who deserves a look? Be sure to give us your thoughts in the comments below.

Kevin: Maximiliano Urruti

For the first time in weeks this is an easy pick. Max Urruti is it for the obvious reasons. One man. Two goals. Three points.

Stacey: Maximiliano Urruti

This game and the 35 minutes he played last week before he was pulled were Urruti's two best appearances as a Timber. The first goal in particular was such an awesome surprise. While his teammates kept getting the ball around the box and looking for the pass, as if none of them wanted to score, Urruti got the ball, turned, and scored. I still don't know how we got that win, and my MOTM vote goes to the guy who pulled that out of nowhere for us.

Kelly: Maximiliano Urruti

Looks as though maybe some time (to get acclimated) and getting benched (to light a fire) are finally giving fans a look at the Urruti that Porter was hoping for when he brought him in late last season.

Ryan: Maximiliano Urruti

I don't know if you can pick anyone else. He ran down everything and forced a lot of low percentage passes out of the back. He might be one of the few Timbers willing to shoot from outside the box. 3 Goals in only 130 minutes of work from the last two games is exactly what Portland needed to climb the standings ladder.

Michael: Maximiliano Urruti

I'll make it unanimous. Two goals and good pressure. Exactly what Caleb Porter says he wants from his striker.

Will: Maximiliano Urruti

I want to play devil's advocate and pick someone other than Urruti, but everyone else was just not very good. There were plenty of good moments, but nothing consistent enough to put forward another name so Urruti it is.
