NWSL Fines Thorns Following Riley's Comments Regarding Officiating

The Portland Thorns have been fined an undisclosed amount following comments made by head coach Paul Riley, the National Women's Soccer League announced late Friday.

Riley did not comment on the officiating following the match, but he was critical of the NWSL's lack of review process following training Wednesday regarding Nadine Angerer's controversial Red Card on June 7 against Western New York.

The NWSL issued the following statement in a press release:

National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Executive Director Cheryl Bailey announced today that the Portland Thorns FC have been fined an undisclosed amount for comments critical of the match officials that were made by head coach Paul Riley regarding Saturday's game against the Western New York Flash.

All fines collected by the NWSL will be donated to the U.S. Soccer Foundation, the exclusive charitable partner of the League.
