World Cup 2014 Open Thread: Day 13

Groups C and D wrap up in today's slate of games.

Robert Cianflone

In the day's early matches, Group D favorites Italy and Uruguay will slug it out to make their way into the knock out rounds. Meanwhile, tournament darlings and surprise leaders of Group D, Costa Rica, take on pointless England and have the chance to secure their top spot in the group with a single point.

The later matches see every team in Group C with the exception of Colombia in need of a win to secure their passage to the next round. Even Japan and Greece, each with only a point in the standings, could still make it through.

Following a day that saw Mexico, Brazil, and Holland put up commanding performances as they advanced to the round of sixteen, today should be a much more tightly contested series of matches.
