Portland Timbers vs. Vancouver Whitecaps Match Thread [2:00]

The Timbers host the Whitecaps for the second time this year with a playoff spot on the line.

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers host the Vancouver Whitecaps today in a match that is for all the marbles. With both teams exchanging the 5th place spot in recent weeks, this is an opportunity for one or the other to take a firm grasp of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

With the Timbers recently having reminded themselves that they can win at home and the Whitecaps having reminded themselves they can win at all, this is a match up of two teams with everything to lose.

Preview Interview: "Erik Hurtado got on the board against FC Dallas and perhaps that will send him on another goal streak, but really, you never know what you're going to expect from the offense on any given night. This same core group of forwards were feared for their speed and finish earlier this season, and now they have the same attacking prowess as a baked potato. So I guess the short answer is, I'm never expecting the 'Caps to score, but they definitely have the potential. Frustrating, enraging potential."
