The Portland Thorns have made their first move of the offseason, parting ways with Equatorial Guinea international striker Genoveva "Ayo" Añonma after one season with the team. Ayo made 12 appearances for the Thorns, notching a goal and an assist in the Thorns' 6th place season.
Ayo, who arrived from Turbine Potsdam in the Frauen Bundesliga, where she scored nine goals in eighteen appearances over the course of the the 2014-15 season, was expected to carry the team's attack forward in the absence of strikers Alex Morgan, Christine Sinclair, and Jodie Taylor at the 2015 FIFA Womens World Cup. Unfortunately, the Thorns struggled with call ups and injuries over the course of the season as the team struggled to find their form for much of the season.
Ayo will now be available on the NWSL waiver wire and will be available for selection by clubs around the league until tomorrow morning. Also available on waivers are Rafaela Travalao, Suzanne Pires, Bia, Brittany Bock, Jordan Jackson, Ella Masar, and Ajara Nchout Njoya.
