The Portland Timbers face off against Sporting Kansas City tonight in a classic six pointer as they seek to move up the MLS table and put some distance between themselves and the dreaded red line. This clash between the 5th and 6th place teams in the Western Conference pits the Timbers, fresh off their first win in a month, against Sporting, who are only three days removed from winning the U.S. Open Cup in a hopefully draining penalty kick shootout.
Match Preview: "This week the Timbers will certainly hope to carry forward the scoring form -- kick the ball at Fanendo Adi, hope he scores -- that propelled them to their first win in five matches, last Saturday's 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew. Finally beating Kansas City this season, however, will require a complete performance from the Timbers; the attack will be vital, but the defensive side of the ball, which has undoubtedly been the Timbers' strength this season, will need to be organized and strong if they want to shut Sporting down."
