The Portland Timbers are through to the final and now so are Columbus Crew SC. With teams from the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference now selected, the MLS Cup Final is set.
Both sides made their way to the Cup Final thanks to narrow victories in their respective conference finals, with the Timbers beating FC Dallas with an aggregate score of 5-3 and sealed by a final minute goal from Lucas Melano just as Dallas were knocking on the door and looking for the gametyizg goals. Columbus, meanwhile, were able to squeak by with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline as they held off a late rally from the Red Bulls following their 2-0 victory in the first leg of their match up.
Barring an extreme bout of weather -- a snow or ice storm of epic proportions -- the Timbers will be headed to Columbus for the match and will play in MAPFRE Stadium on Sunday. The final will be held at 1:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on ESPN. Tickets for the Cup Final will go on sale Monday morning at 8:00 a.m. through MLSsoccer.com or through TimbersArmy.org for 107IST members.
