The Portland Timbers held a closed training session this morning ahead of tomorrow's preseason match against the Chicago Fire. With the first team having played in Sunday's match against the Whitecaps, the Timbers spent today prepping their second XI for tomorrow.

Working at the team's Beaverton training facility, the Timbers started the day off with a video session indoors before coming outside for a pair of fifteen minute rondos. The team then moved on to a series of agility drills, run by fitness coach Nick Milonas. From there the Timbers moved to a series of 7v3 possession drills that carried the team through until the press were removed from the pitch.

Injuries and Absences

Diego Chara continued his absence from training today due to a calf contusion suffered against Vancouver on Sunday. Caleb Porter confirmed that while Chara is currently out the team are aiming to have him back for Saturday.

Will Johnson was also again not at training as he continues his time with the Major League Soccer Players' Union while they negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement.

Jake Gleeson was on the pitch again today, working with keeper coach Mike Toshack for the second day in a row. Gleeson continued wearing a boot on his strained ankle today.

2015 draft pick Andrew Thoma was not with the first team today, instead training with T2.

Trialists and Guest Players

Danny O'Rourke and Justin Luthy continued their training with the team today. O'Rourke has been expected to sign with the first team, while Luthy is expected to sign with T2.

Caleb Porter confirmed that the Timbers will give some minutes to several players who have been training with T2 in tomorrow's match, but none were on hand for the first team practice today.

Timbers 2

Jamie Goldberg identified the mystery keeper who trained with the first team for the least two days and T2 today as Lance Parker, formerly of Chivas USA and FC Edmonton.
