Portland Timbers Man of the Match: Complete Performances

USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers have wrapped up their preseason with a 1-0 win over Stabaek last night. There were some big performances from the Timbers in the final match of the Simple Invitational, despite the uneven level of the competition.

Here are our picks for the Timbers' Man of the Match against Stabaek. Check them out then give us yours in the comments below.

Chris Rifer: Fanendo Adi

This is the only answer. Adi was simply tremendous, especially in the first half. There was hardly an aerial ball he didn't win. Stabaek absolutely could not take the ball off his feet. And his distribution in the attack was outstanding. Oh, and GOALZ. It was the first complete performance we've seen from Adi this preseason, and just in time.

Ryan Gates: Darlington Nagbe

Darlington was a great distributor of the ball tonight. His combo play with Adi was a major reason Adi was able to manhandle the single defender in his vicinity because other defenders where needed to also be in Nagbe's vicinity. While he did not notch an assist or a goal the flow of the offense was no longer stagnant but had a more free flowing feel to it.

Will Conwell: Adam Kwarasey

Kwarasey made his first big save for the Timbers in the first half of last night's match, but his contribution was much more impressive than that as he showed an increasing understanding with his centerbacks, providing a ready outlet whenever one was needed.
