There were a couple of differing opinions for Man of the Match Race but in the end we all agreed that Matt Kenseth was the consensus choice. If you are looking for the Portland Timbers Man of the Match report it has been moved to our sister site Stumptown Footy 2, which is only available in Halfway.com, Oregon.
For those who were able to see the game here are our real picks for Man of the Match.
Will - Adam Kwarasey
The Timbers' keeper had his first game changing performance of the season in this Timbers' victory, cleaning up several mistakes from the back line and coming up huge in his 89' one on one save against Khiry Shelton inside the Timbers' box. Last weekend may have shown Timbers fans why they miss Donovan Ricketts, but this weekend should show them why they should be happy to have Adam Kwarasey.
Chris G - Darlington Nagbe
I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing but clearly Darlington Nagbe had significant influence (positive influence) in the outcome of this inordinately large win in New York. With a pitch the width of a youth soccer game where a 12 yr old could probably have a thrown-in reach the six yard box Nagbe still made and created space. And the substitution - a worthy one - not because Yartey didn't play well - but because of the tight space - saw Gaston magnify his presence even more! And together the two combined to get that extra space for Asprilla (the enforcer) stuff one home! This game was all about finishing and Asprilla - through Nagbe and Gaston finished off New York City!
Case - Adam Kwarasey
Our keeper has been consistent at the back when our defenders fell apart. This game he does it again with some quick reflexes. Without Kwarasey this could have been a bad game for Timbers fans. He was the difference in any points and a loss.
Kevin McCamish - Adam Kwarasey
Five saves, key saves, to keep Portland in the match. Dairon scored his first goal for the Timbers but Kwarasey is the reason they are bringing three points home.
Chris R - Darlington Nagbe
The Timbers really struggled under the weight of NYCFC's press early on. In the second half, however, the Timbers went more direct and Nagbe made the game his, repeatedly breaking the Citizens' pressure and creating chances left and right. Adam Kwarasey is a good shout, too, but while Kwarasey saved the Timbers, Nagbe is the man that made them.
Ryan -Adam awarasey
One week removed from arguably his worst performance in a Timbers' uniform Jorge put in a very good performance. He and Adam Kwarasey really secured the three points for the Timbers but it was really Kwarasey who fully secured all three points. His 89th minute save on Shelton was the game changer.
