Portland Timbers to Play Seattle Sounders at Starfire in US Open Cup

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Timbers now know who they will be playing in their first US Open Cup match of 2015 and the only thing less surprising than their opponents are where they are playing. On June 16th the Timbers will head to the cozy confines of Starfire Sports Complex to take on the Seattle Sounders in the fourth round of the US Open Cup.

The Timbers and Sounders are the only MLS teams drawn to face off against each other in the 4th round, with the other 15 American MLS sides entering the competition with matches against third round winners.

This marks the second year in a row that the Timbers will head north to take on Seattle in the USOC. In last year's match up the Timbers lost 3-1 in extra time following a Darlington Nagbe goal to tie up the match in regulation.

The two teams USL sides will face off in the USOC third round at Starfire next Wednesday.
