Have we all come down from out Rocky Mountain High? (Sorry I couldn't resist) Despite the scoreline quite a few Portland Timbers put in quality shifts on Saturday and the dramatic finish earned the Timbers a deserved 3 points. Here are our picks for Man of the Match.
Chris G. - Maximiliano Urruti
As much as I want to give it to Jack Jewsbury, George Fochive, Alvas Powell, La Gata, or Darlington Nagbe I simply won't... The total performance - on both sides of the pitch - in what looked like a roll Maxi Urruti tried earlier this year - looked superb. Even more intriguing was seeing La Gata come off instead of Maxi when Fenando Adi showed. That really confirmed to me that Caleb Porter was very impressed with Urruti's total performance!
Will - Jack Jewsbury
Captain Jack stepped up in a big way for the Timbers, scoring one of those clutch goals that he has had a knack for since joining the team in 2011. Jack's showing was good throughout the game, but his ability to push through the final minutes of a difficult match at altitude and find the right place at the right time to grab the game winner makes him the Man of the Match.
Chris R. - Maximiliano Urruti
Not only was Urruti's the best performance we saw from any Timbers player on Saturday, it was probably the best performance the team has had from a number nine all year. Urruti used unusual on-ball prowess to repeatedly shake defenders and step into space, where he created not only for himself, but for others as well. It was elite attacking work from the Argentine striker that further solidifies his spot as the Timbers' first-choice forward.
Ryan - Maximiliano Urruti
I was impressed more with Urruti after La Gata was subbed out. He may not have added to the offense at that point but his defensive work rate was superb and he gave his all until he too was subbed out in the 88th minute. This was the best performance by a Timbers Striker this year.
